Listen: Sounding Off on the Brutality of the American Healthcare System

By Bob Hennelly

In this edition of WBAI’s What's Going On, co-host retired FDNY EMT Marianne Pizzitola, president of the New York City Organization of Public Service Retirees and WBAI’s interim program director Keziah Glow speak with Dr. Steve Auerbach, a retired captain in the U.S. Public Health Service.

Dr. Auerbach discusses the predatory push to privatize  Medicare, via Medicare Advantage, which has actually led to tens of billions of dollars in over payments to insurance companies as well as thousands of premature deaths per year due to prior authorizations and outright denials of treatment.

Auerbach, who has  decades of experience in epidemiology, is also a longtime activist with Physicians for a National Health Program. PHNP advocates for the Medicare for All, Single Payer approach.

Callers sound off on the brutality of the American for profit healthcare system that’s the most expensive in the world yet produces the poorest outcomes while generating billions in profits.
