Listen: DNC Kickoff; NYC Probation Officers Talk Contract And More…

Reporting live from the Democratic National Convention.

By Bob Hennelly

The Stuck Nation Labor Radio Hour and our Pacifica Radio Team is in Chicago this week for the Democratic National Convention. “We Decide: America at the Crossroads 2024” will be carried from 8 pm to 10 pm Eastern Standard Time.

All this week, we will be bringing you the sights and sounds from inside the DNC and out in the community—far beyond the metal barricades where thousands are expected to make their voices heard.

Tonight, President Joe Biden, as well as several national labor leaders including the UAW's Shawn Fain, are scheduled to speak. Our broadcast will feature the Rev. Dr. William Barber.

Of course, in this episode we also maintain our focus on the latest labor news in the City of New York. At the top of this week’s show, we get an update from Dalvanie Powell, president of the United Probation Officers Association about the new tentative contract that Mayor Eric Adams announced on Friday. Powell tells us the latest contract makes up for decades of lost ground and includes salary steps which she says will help recruit the 200-plus officers her agency is short of right now.

The United Probation Officers Association has a tentative new deal with the City of New York.

In the second half of the show, we speak with Arne Arnesen, the longtime New Hampshire progressive talk show host, which is heard  on WBAI and across the Pacifica Radio Network. Arene’s a lawyer by training—but a troublemaker on purpose. She discusses the implications of Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign for the presidency.
