United Healthcare’s ‘Sir Andy’ Lampooned on Wall Street!
By Bob Hennelly
This week, the big health care story was United Healthcare Group’s latest earnings report—the first since the murder of CEO Brian Thompson here in New York City on December.
Though the company’s over $400 billion revenue for last year showed an increase, it was a disappointment to Wall Street analysts.
On this episode of WBAI’s Friday Labor & Healthcare Report with Keziah Glow and retired FDNY EMT and New York City of Public Service Retirees President Marianne Pizzitola—we play tape from a spirited protest down in front of the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street led by the People’s Action Institute specifically addressing United Healthcare continually putting profits ahead of patients’ well-being.
The show includes protest tape of former New Hampshire EMT Jenn Coffey delivering the United Healthcare’s earnings report in the voice of its highly compensated United Healthcare CEO Sir Andrew Witty—who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 2012.
Dr. Cheryl Kunis, a New York City-based Nephrologist and a member of the Physicians for a National Health Program, also joins the discussion. Dr. Kunis shares a tragic real life story about a patient battling cancer whose treatment was delayed by their insurance company. Dr. Kunis’ patient ultimately died.
